    19. How do I get the Patch Version 1.1 and what do I do with it?
    20. I installed the 1.1 patch, and one or more of my save-games will not load.

    1) Interactive Preview CD - I hold the arrow button but can't move forward. It keeps bouncing back. We have seen that happen for one of two reasons. It is either a conflict with the mouse or emm386 or other memory manager.

    If you do not have an actual Microsoft mouse, you can try to boost your mouse's compatibility by using a Microsoft mouse driver instead of the one that came with your mouse. We have Microsoft mouse driver 8.2 on our web site and BBS. Go to the tech support utilities section to find it.

    Web:http://www.interplay.com
    BBS: Telnet: bbs.interplay.com
    199.182.211.86
    modem: (949) 252-2822

    The easiest way to use it is to copy it over your old one (after backing up your old one) usually found in a c:\mouse directory. You can also copy it onto a bootdisk and use the line A:\mouse as instructed in the autoexec.bat instructions below.

    2) I would like to run Stonekeep in Win95. 2a) Receiving error : Out of memory allocating: cache memory (xxx bytes) Stonekeep and Win95 - Although it is not officially tested or supported in Win95, we were able to create a PIF shortcut to be able to play the full version in Win95. You can find the shortcut skull icon in your C:\INTRPLAY\STONKEEP folder. (Double click on My computer, C Drive, Intrplay Folder, Stonkeep Folder, Stonekeep Skull icon.) If this does not help your full version, you don't have enough memory to play the game in Win95 or you have the demo, you need to shutdown to MS-DOS mode. Click on Start, Shutdown, Restart in MS-DOS mode, OK.
    In DOS type: CD\INTRPLAY\STONKEEP to enter the Stonkeep directory.
    Type SK to start the game.

    3) Receiving error: Error reading cc:Font That error is caused by a read error during installation. Delete Stonekeep (In DOS, type: CD\INTRPLAY [hit enter] and then type: DELTREE STONKEEP [hit enter] and answer Yes to the question asking you if you want to delete.) Reinstall by switching to the CD ROM drive (type: D: [hit enter]) and type INSTALL.

    If the error still occurs, delete the DATA directory (type: DEL C:\INTRPLAY\STONKEEP\DATA\*.* [hit enter]).

    4) Receiving error: Error Reading Data group 15 (or other ##) There are a few things that could correct this error. Try each suggestion, and then start Stonekeep again to test it. If the suggestion did not help, try the next one and start Stonekeep again.

    First, make sure your CD is clean and free of scratches. Start the game. If the error message occurs, take out the CD and make sure it is clean. Reinsert it back into the drive, wait 30 seconds and then answer `yes' to the questions by pressing Y.

    Next, if the error still occurs, make sure your files in your CONFIG.SYS are set to at least 60. Make sure you are in DOS or DOS mode and type:
    EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS
    Find the FILES= line. Erase the number(s) after the = and change it to 60 (if your number was 59 or lower).
    Save and exit the editor. If you made a mistake and can not correct it, go to File and then Exit. Make sure you answer NO when it asks you to save. Restart your computer and try Stonekeep again.

    If you've gotten this far and it is still occurring, we may be dealing with the program being sensitive to something in your configuration files. Try the bootdisk instructions below (#10)

    5) Hints *Stonekeep hints are right now only available by hint book and 900 line. There is a free text file available on all our support sites.

    *You can call to get hints on our 900 hint line at (900)370-PLAY(7529). It costs $1.25 the first minute and $0.75 each additional minute. You must be 18 years or older or have permission from a parent or quardian to call.

    *There is also a company called Prima Publishing that has a hintbook available. Their phone number is 800-531-2343. You can order by fax or mail by providing your Visa or Mastercard number, expiration date, and your name and address to:

    Prima Publishing
    Stonekeep
    P.O. Box 629000
    El Dorado Hills, CA 95762
    Fax:(800)582-8000
    *The cost is $19.95. Please add $4.00 shipping and handling. U.S. California Res. add 7.25% sales tax. Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. Canadian Orders please add $6.00 shipping and handling and 7% GST. Use VISA, MasterCard, Check or Money Order in U.S. funds only.

    Technical and Customer Support do not have any hints for Stonekeep.

    6) Wahooka is not reappearing The Great Wahooka may or may not decide to show up again. He only would have given you a couple of hints that do not help your quest anyway (and he takes your gems!). The hints are, "Watch out for traps. The Shamans of the Throgs set many of them around here hoping to stick a couple of dwarves.", "Search the sewers below for the key to the Underlands.", and "To succeed in your quest, you must find all nine of the orbs." He will show up again during Level 7.

    7) A sound card with IRQ 10 will not work Stonekeep is unable to have sound on the IRQ setting of 10. We selected sound drivers based on their superb sound quality and their ability to produce many sound effects at the same time. Unfortunately, these drivers have no IRQ 10 support. You can get sound with most cards on IRQ 5 or 7 and on some sound cards with IRQ 2.

    8) Can I use my Demo save game in the full version? Save games from the Stonekeep Interactive Preview are not compatible with the full version of Stonekeep. There have been changes to the maps and the game that prevent compatibility. However, we have included a save game file that you can use if you want to start near the end of the Preview. To use this save game, use these commands immediately after you install the game:

    Assuming your CD-ROM is D:, the Stonekeep CD is there, and you have installed Stonekeep to the default directory on C:, type:

    C: (enter)
    CD\INTRPLAY\STONKEEP (enter)
    XCOPY D:\DATA\START\*.* /S (enter)

    This will overwrite your current save game in Slot 1, if you have one. Instead of using the provided same game, we suggest you start a new game. It is up to you.

    9) Receiving error: HMI driver not found We can try a few things to correct your HMI error. Try each suggestion and then start Stonekeep again to test it. If the suggestion did not help, try the next one and start Stonekeep again. Thanks for your patience.

    First, make sure your CD is in the drive before starting SETUP or SK. If the error is occurring and the CD is in the drive, make sure your FILES in your CONFIG.SYS are set to at least 60. To change your CONFIG.SYS, make sure you are in DOS or DOS Mode and type:
    EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS
    Find the FILES= line. Erase the number(s) after the = and change it to 60 (if your number was 59 or lower). Save and exit the editor. If you made a mistake and can not correct it, go to File and then Exit. Make sure you answer NO when it asks you to save. Restart your computer and try Stonekeep again.

    If the error message is still occurring, reinstall Stonekeep. When it enters the SETUP, select one of the sound blaster options as your sound card, save and exit the setup and start Stonekeep.

    One of these suggestions should do the trick. If you are still having trouble, email me back with your system information (especially sound card manufacturer, irq,dma, and address settings).

    10) Bootdisk Instructions Making a bootdisk for DOS4GW Games:

    I highly recommend printing out a copy of your autoexec.bat and config.sys in advance. You will be able to refer to it for adding your sound, CD-ROM and mouse lines. To do this, go to File/Run [Win95 - Go to Start/Run} and put in the command line:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSEDIT

    Go to File/Print and print out both the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. You may need to click on its title bar to bring a window on top to print it. When you exit, make sure you answer NO if you asks you to save the file.

    If you do not want to make the bootdisk by hand, you can download a bootdisk maker called, STONBOOT.ZIP(50k) from any of our support sites. StoneBoot is a utility that was made for Stonekeep. It will attempt to make a boot disk configuration and put it on a disk for you to play Stonekeep.

    When should you use StoneBoot?

    • If you are getting cache Error messages then you should use this to make a boot disk for you.
    • If you are receiving "not enough memory" errors you should use StoneBoot.
    • If you are having any kind of technical difficulty you should use it as the first step to eliminating conflict within your computer.
    If you do use and you still receive problems, you should mail SUPPORT@INTERPLAY.COM and paste in the autoexec.bat and config.sys from the bootdisk that was made by the program.

    If you are not sure on the lines to include in your autoexec.bat and config.sys, try bootme.exe or paste your autoexec.bat and config.sys into an email to us. You can bring up your system files in Windows by going to File/Run (or in Win95 Start/Run) and type: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSEDIT in the command line. Highlight, Copy and then Paste the config.sys and the autoexec.bat into and email. When exiting the sysedit, make sure you answer NO if it asks you to save any changes. Please do not attach your system files to an email, paste them within the body of the letter.

    These instructions are assuming you are using MS-DOS 6. Special changes or instructions for Win95 are in {Win95- } if needed. {Win95- Shutdown and restart in MS-DOS mode} 1) Insert a disk into drive A. (Must be drive A, not B)
    2) From the C prompt, type "FORMAT A: /S"
    3) Switch to the A:\> prompt, type "A:"
    4) Make a config file- type "C:\DOS\EDIT A:\CONFIG.SYS"
    4a If Win95- type "C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EDIT A:\CONFIG.SYS" 5) Put the following lines in the screen:
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
    DOS=HIGH,UMB
    BUFFERS=20
    FILES=60
    Place your Sound Card line(s) and CD-ROM line next. Here are some sample lines from a Creative Labs CD-ROM and sound card. Yours will be different and may start with DEVICEHIGH:
    DEVICE=C:\SB16\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220 I5 D:1 H:5
    DEVICE=C:\SB16\DRV\CTMMSTS.STS
    DEVICE=C:\SB16\DRV\SBCD.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220
    6) Save and exit the editor.
    7) Make an A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, type:
    C:\DOS\EDIT A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT {Win95- C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EDIT A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT} 8) Put the following lines in the editor screen: @ECHO OFF PATH C:\;C:\DOS; {Win95- PATH C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;} (Place your Sound Card, CD-ROM's MSCDEX and Mouse lines here. Here is a sample set from a Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16. Yours will be different and may start with a LH):

    SET SOUND=C:\SB16
    SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
    SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
    C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S
    C:\SB16\SB16SET /P /Q
    C:\WINDOWS\MSCDEX.EXE D:MSCD001 /M:15
    C:\MOUSE\MOUSE

    {Win95- Do not put in all `REM - By Windows95 . . .' so that your lines start with C:\ or LH} (If you downloaded a Microsoft mouse driver, copy the file onto your bootdisk and add the line below instead of the C:\MOUSE\MOUSE line above.): A:\MOUSE
    (Downloading and using a actual Microsoft mouse driver is highly recommended if your game is having strange problems, freezing or crashing.) C:
    PROMPT $P My bootdisk $G (optional)
    CD\INTRPLAY\STONKEEP (or the path of the game you are playing)
